Biography
Hong Kong-born Canadian pianist Aidan Cheng began learning piano at the age of 6 and has since charmed audiences and judges alike with his powerful and thoughtful musical interpretations.
Aidan has participated and received awards in a variety of competitions such as the David D. Dubois Piano Competition, Concours de musique du Canada, Canadian Chopin Competition, Joseph Bologne International Piano Competition. He has also taken part in summer festivals such as the Vancouver Piano Sessions and Orford Academy of Music under scholarship. Aidan has worked with many distinguished pianists including Boris Slutsky, Arthur Greene, Ronon O’Hora, Marina Lomazov and many others. He has performed in many famous venues such as the Roy Thomson Hall, Isabel Bader Theatre and the Meridian Arts Centre. Aidan recently played with the Greater Toronto Philharmonic Orchestra as a soloist and is looking forward to working with the Korean Canadian Symphony Orchestra and the Kindred Spirits Orchestra in the near future.


Aidan is also an experienced collaborative pianist and enjoys performing chamber music. Having recently held the piano/celesta position of the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra in its 51st season, Aidan was a part of the TSYO piano quintet and has been involved in promoting the importance of music in local communities through the Kingston Road Young People's Concerts. In addition to being a pianist, he is an accomplished double bassist with over 10 years of orchestral experience and an award-winning composer mentored by Dr. Roydon Tse.
Aidan is a piano performance major at the Eastman School of Music, supported by the Grace and Robert Gray Scholarship Fund. He is currently under the tutelage of Professor Alexander Kobrin. Prior to pursuing his undergraduate studies, Aidan was a student of Dr. Younggun Kim.
